No S. DeKalb schools on this list
Newsweek ranked the top high schools in the nation, and about 1600 schools made their list. that comes to about 6 percent of public schools. Well six schools from DeKalb made the list.
here is the a snip from the AJC article.
The magazine judges schools based on how extensively they challenge students with advanced curriculum courses.
Newsweek takes the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge AICE tests given at a school each year and divides it by the number of seniors graduating in May or June. Nationwide slightly more than 1,600 schools, or only 6 percent of public schools, made the mark.
Notice the advanced curriculum courses statement. Challenge your students, and they will do better. give them ordinary courses, and you will get excellent ordinary students.
Here are the schools that made it:
DeKalb School of the Arts
Chamblee Charter
Lakeside
Dunwoody
Tucker

Final rankings: Why did metro Atlanta win all 10
With all the bad news coming out of DeKalb about education, there is some good news on the sports fronts. Four DeKalb high school teams won basketball championships last week. Congrats go out to the SWD Girls, the Columbia girls, the Miller Grove boys and the Columbia boys. Kudos also go out to the Redan girls and the Stephenson girls who finished in the top 10 in their respective classifications. These kids bring a great sense of pride to what is a bruised and battered school system. Now if only the adults could get their act together to make a winning team out of the school system.
